— Nymphéas Noirs (Black Nympheas)

Black matter on wood 250x122cm - 2020

A haunted and terrifying version of the famous Nymphéas of Claude Monet.

A new painting in the Manoirs BLACKLIGHT series, showing a really dark vision of the Nymphéas under a night and stormy sky.

This painting leads back to basics: I learned to paint realizing reproductions of Grand Masters pieces. The key to the light I was searching for at that time appeared to me through black.

Since then, I always had used black to sublimate light, make it explode, until the day when, by dint of putting always more and more, I ended passing to the other side of the black mirror where I discovered a new light.

This is at this moment that I discovered this singularity hidden behind the visible horizon of this black matter, named "La nacre du noir" ("black mother-of-pearl"). Since then, I track it down, diving even and always more deeply into the unfathomable abysses of the black matter.
